<>One of my favorite things to do was to sing to the girls each night as they were getting ready for bed. We went around from cabin to cabin and sang Goodnight Ladies, Now the Day is Over, and my personal favorite, Goodnight Sweetheart, sung in doo-op style. We were so good, we considered hiring out to other stake girls camps to sing to them or to make a recording of our music. One night after a particularly difficult week of problems, we got a knock at our door and it was none other than Katie, Randi, and Betheny who sang to us. It really lifted our spirits.
I also liked planning and preparing youth conferences. We did, "Be All That You Can Be in the Family" and "It's a Jungle Out There." It was so fun to teach and train youth leaders and watch them rise to the occasion and lead out.
Another hilarious part of the calling was in the foyer of the church checking dance cards for the dances. That could be a great pyschological study in human behavior. It was funny to watch the young people come to the door dressed in clothing that was clearly inappropriate and adjust their skirts or tops before they came in the door. Often they would come in wearing something we simply could not allow. They would offer a sob story about being dropped off, not being able to reach a parent, etc. In a few minutes they would "miraculously" reappear with a new outfit that they happened to have in their backpack...they were just testing us.
We spent countless hours around my kitchen table having presidency meetings and planning for ward conferences, stake leadership meetings, and any other event that was in the pipeline. One time we even got to host Julie Beck who then was a member of the YW general board as she ame to our area to provide training for us. I sat right next to her as we ate dinner together.
I have such great memories of the times we spent together and have a great love for these women.

I should have sent you the picture of me, Betheny and Randi.
You guys were the only reason it was worth going to girls camp. Even though my mom was the stake YW pres...the years you four were in were the best years in all of my YW days.
That looks so fun! I would've loved Girls Camp if you were the leader- now I don't want to be a camp leader for anything! I do not look forward to hanging out with our YW- sadly katie would understand! They are great girls, but sometimes very difficult! I loved all the pictures and the fun you all shared!
BATH girls is genius. (Hanging around in the forest dressed in bathrobes - priceless).
On another topic, Roxanne is trying out for the pom line this week (although it's more of a new age, lyrical, hyper-modern dance team - I can't quite define it. No pom-poms though.) Anyway, I told her she should get some tips and advice from her favorite Aunt Lauri. There is another blog idea for you -your years as a Winslow METEORETTE!!
Those were the days! Nothing like fun with wild abandon!! As wild as we could get. Those late nights of giggles and goodies, nothing better! We learned alot together, just as much as the girls! Priesthood leadership, carrying safety pins at all times, and lovingly encouraging the best in "our girls" Thank you for the stroll down a very happy memory lane!
You guys were seriously the best leaders ever! Not too long ago I was thinking about the BATH girls. I loved being on the YC committee with such fun leaders. I wish you could come show some of the people here how it should be done!
Oh my gosh! You have to take that picture off of there! I look SO horrible! By the way...those years were the best thanks to you and your counselors. I LOVED girls camp and Youth conferance. One of my favorite memories was when Katie, Randi and I sang L.O.V.E. to you guys. Every time I hear that song, I think of you and girls camp.
I love your ideas. How fun!! I'm sure the YW loved having a leader dress up like that.
I remember that. I love that you used to come and sing us to sleep at girls camp. I was so glad you found my blog. I love all those pictures. You are the best. Hope you like Arizona as much as Cali. We miss you here.
It was so funny to see those pictures. I was singing the skid-a-ma-ring-a-dinka song to Larry yesterday. I was surprised first of all that I remembered it, and second that he didn't stop the car and make me get out while I was singing it!!! Even now when I get the giggles, I refer to it as "Thursday night at camp" blues!!
that year at girls camp had to be my absolute favorite year. I would have never known that you didnt like girls camp (for the camping end of it I'm sure).
You guys were the best presidency I think there ever has been! You made everything so fun, and I will forever remember 'goodnight sweetheart'. That was so unique and special!
How fun! I love that you're related to me. :)
