...against breast cancer.I have a dear friend who was diagnosed this summer with breast cancer. Claudia was my counselor when I was Young Women's president. We have had a close connection since we first met. She was diagnosed early and her prognosis is good but going through chemo treatments is horrendous! Her immune system is weak, she is exhausted, she has lost her hair, and she has had some difficult reactions to the chemo.
However, she is facing this challenge with immense faith and an extremely positive attitude and is an inspiration to all of us who are watching her. She wants her life to continue as normal as possible so she continues to teach her second grade class as much as she can in between treatments even though at the end of each day she is exhausted.
Tomorrow (Saturday) several of her friends are participating in a local Making Strides Against Cancer 5K for her. I'm looking forward to starting my day with a brisk walk around Tempe Town Lake in her behalf.
Last week, the Mesa Tribune did an article about her. Doesn't she look great? I tell her that sometimes I forget that she is battling a horrible disease because she looks so cute. She reminds me that she stays at home and in bed on her bad days.

I can't begin to tell you the admiration I have for all of these courageous women (and men) who are fighting this dreadful disease. The good news is that more and more people are being cured. We have a young girl in my college ward who was just diagnosed with lymphoma and she had her first chemo treatment this week. She, too, has such an optimistic attitude, so much so that it's hard to be worried for her. Have Fun on your Walk today, it sounds like the perfect thing to do for such a good cause.
What a great thing to do! I hope that things turn out well for your friend. Her positive and upbeat attitude will take her far.
I'm sorry that your friend is battling this awful disease. She is lucky to have a friend like you!
She is beautiful! I shall say a prayer for her.
Wow! My heart really goes out to anyone facing that kind of a battle. You are right- she looks great! I can't imagine how tough her bad days must be though for her. She is lucky to have such a good support group watching over her! She will be in my prayers!
Lauri, I am so glad your friend is doing well. You know first hand the struggle of breast cancer. What a comfort it must be to have someone who will be there for her no matter what the day brings.
Hi Lauri
Claudia is an inspiration. What a wonderful blessing to have faith in God combined with the genius of medical technology.
Thank you for the loving comment you made about wishing you could be at our leadership mtg. It made me smile. I can imagine those mtgs. long ago. They are precious memories. The friendships that were created...many have endured. You are one of those.
WOW. She does look amazing! Best of luck to her. Here's to a great healing!
