In June, I started flying up to Utah every other weekend rather than every weekend. It was necessary but difficult. When I'm not there, I feel sad and guilty. I'm surprised at how easily the tears flow. I have found the only way I can handle it is to keep very busy.
So what did I do this weekend? A lot of things I've been neglecting the past 3 months.
- I cleaned the house (even washed a few windows...gasp!)
- went grocery shopping
- planted a few pots on my back patio
- began the long process of applying for disability benefits. Government bureaucracy is alive and well. It took a 30 minute phone call, 1 1/2 hours of on-line applications, and I will have a one hour follow-up phone call next Friday..."promptly at 9:05 so be near your phone."
- got out my 4th of July decorations
swam a few laps in my pool...doesn't my backyard look inviting? Yep, I also worked in the yard for several hours to clean up flower beds.
- went to lunch with a friend and on the same day, went to dinner with another friend.
- spent a few hours looking for a swim suit...an early birthday present to myself. Genn, since you posted your darling suit, I haven't been able to get it off my mind so I bought something similar. And for those of you who are wondering...I'm going to stitch it closed a little bit....it's too plunging of a neckine for me.

I'm exhausted just reading about what you did. Wow! I think you did a weeks worth of things in just a few days.
Oh wow Lauri!!! Your sure did accomplish a lot!!! I LOVE the swim suit. It is very similar! And love your patio planters, and your 4th of July decorations! Yes, your pool looks delightful. Bet it is the perfect temp! And the fabric...YUM!! Can't wait to see what you make with it. Keep busy Lauri...busy is good. Hang in there.
Love ya,
Kris
That suit is really cute. I think it suits you.
You're back yard is SO inviting. My back yard is an embarrassment. If we skip a week of weeding, the weeds are knee high. The humidity makes them grow out of control and our yard is too big to get them all in a week. PLUS, it rains a ton and we can't weed as often as we like. IT's seriously embarrassing. I hate yard work because it's all weeding.
I'm glad you're finally getting to all these things. Remember how productive you were last summer? You hardly seem like yourself if you're not up to a million things.
I'm glad to hear that you are able to keep so busy on these weekends at home. I'm sure it's hard to know you aren't there, but it's good for you too. I love the swimsuit! It does look just like mine. Glad you found one you liked. Your backyard does look extremely inviting.
Love your new potted plants, and your 4th of July decor.
Hang in there!
I am exhausted too!! That is a lot that you have accomplished! Way to go! I am sad that it is so time consuming to get disability stuff going- no wonder our system is so flawed! Oh, I totally love the suit- and I say let the low cut stay!! ha ha- mine is much lower this year, and I totally got more sun in the place that hadn't seen sun before! I love the skirt!
Your pool is very inviting- wish we could come and relax!! Hand in there!! You are still in our prayers!
Girl, you are the standard we all would like to achieve! You are the bestest of the best!
I don't know how you fit so much in, but I'll bet it was nice catching up a bit. I love the swimsuit too.
i know how the guilt feeling can be. just know that youre a great mother who is there a lot. you also deserve some 'you time'. you have been very productive! i love that suit you got! love it! and your new potted plants, i need them in my backyard.
Lauri! That is some major productive-ness! Way to be! I love your new suit! Guess what's funny? ...i only eat our strawberry freezer jam once the raspberry is gone too! haha! I laughed when i read that :)
Wow...that is definitely keeping busy! That dress is beautiful! I know you would rather be with Mike, but I have no doubt he would understand and would want it that way. You and your son are still in our prayers daily.
