mis·cel·la·ne·ous
adj. having various qualities, aspects, or subjects. Ex: a miscellaneous discussion. It doesn't seem that much is going on lately but when you put them all together, it adds up. So although this is a miscellaneous, random post, it is my life!
- I've been on a sewing kick lately. I've been sewing some clothes I actually wear, like, and get complimented on. I made a cute blouse. (sorry, I just pulled it out of the ironing pile to take the picture). I wear it with my yellow skirt and a bright teal belt.
I also made this cute skirt. I picked up the fabric when I was in Ohio with Katie. It still needs some hand-stitching to finish it up so I haven't worn it yet but I am very pleased with the way it turned out.

(bad photo, I know but you get the idea!)
In addition to these pieces, I've found some smoking deals at GAP on pants that fit but were the wrong length so I've cut them off and made ankle length/straight leg slacks. I'm getting some good use out of my sewing machine these days!- The Arizona summer is killing me! It has been an especially miserable summer this year. Many, many days over 110 degrees. In fact, we had about 6 days straight of 114-116 degrees. The nights stay in the 90's. UGH! my air conditioner is running non-stop. I am trying to cool the house by 40 degrees of the outside temp. No wonder it never stops running. Yesterday I got in the pool for the first time in weeks...it has even been too hot to swim. It felt so refreshing yesterday and I was laying on a comfortable mat. Unfortunately, I fell asleep for 45 minutes. I'm a little burned today. I have to say, though, that it was a good, relaxing morning in the pool.
- I decided that I needed a new look in my family room so I painted my coffee table. I have had it for 15 years and it was previously just a plain pine-stained table. Now it is painted and distressed. What do you think?
- My travel back and forth to Provo for the past 2 1/2 years is starting to catch up with me. I go every other weekend after work and come back on the last flight Sunday evening. I'm tired!
- I took on a project that I'm excited about but is taking a lot more time than I was expecting. My mother-in-law has an old sewing cabinet that she wanted stripped and stained. I volunteered for the project and have begun and I want to do a good job on it but there are so many curves and crevices that it makes it difficult to strip. I was hoping to have it finished by now but I'm still plugging away on it.
- Except for my 29th birthday, I have never been bothered by my age and actually I wouldn't have been this year either until I got a test result back from the doctor this year that has made me re-evaluate the aging process. I found out that I am borderline osteoporosis. I have always been a milk drinker, have a sufficient amount of vitamin D, and have been exercising regularly for 25 years. How did this happen? Now I have to make a decision as to whether or not I want to go on a hormone therapy regimen. I have been dragging my heels to give the doctor an answer while I try to come up with an alternative. He tells me without it, my bones will definitely lose more mass. GRRR!
- My nephew, Ben, has been trying to get me to run another race this fall. We are going to a local HS track in the evenings to run. Hmmm...I wonder if I have another race in me?
- My niece, Roni had a baby girl on Friday. I went over to meet her this evening. She is a beautiful little girl with a head full of dark hair. There is nothing more precious than holding a new baby straight from heaven. Nothing!
Well, I warned you that this was a random post. That's all for now!

Wow, you have been busy! I love your sewing projects. You are so talented. Yes, this has been a miserably HOT summer. It is getting to me as well. It has been humid too, with all the rain. Ugg! Looking forward to cooler temps soon. Sorry to hear about your health issue. I should probably go get a bone scan done as well. I know you will come up with the solution that is right for you! Have a good week. We should do a fall hike when the weather cools off (if you have time!)
Oh wow! I love this newsy post! Love the blouse, and skirts you have made! So cute! You are a true seamstress! I never have really made garments, unless they are very simple.
The coffee table looks great! And I am sure that the sewing table for your mother in law will turn out beautiful too!
I know you have been burning your candle at both ends for some time now. Be sure to take those nice relaxing breaks when you can.
XO Kris
LOVE the clothes! That skirt is so cute! I am in love with yellow right now too!
You have been busy, as usual!
I have been told to bring my swimsuit when I come in November, because my friend said her pool is still so nice then! That will be strange for me!
August is almost over. September is usually a little more bearable.
Love your sewing projects. I haven't sewn for myself in a long time.
Your furniture refinishing might turn in to a new career on the side.
I love the clothes you've made! So cute. And I'm so glad to know that I am not the only one that was bothered by my 29th birthday!
Always so fun to read your posts... I stalk you often :-). What's not to love about the Benson's?! I'm sure I'm not the only young woman from corona keeping tabs on you!
Anyway, about the osteoporosis thing, have you seen Forks over Knives? I've done a lot of research and that movie has the most concise info, but I have more documentaries and info to turn you on to if you're interested :-). The US has one of the highest consumption rates of dairy and the highest rates of osteoporosis. That documentary shows you a bit how they're related and gives info about other things, it's awesome! May be a good place to start before hormone therapy.
I'm excited to hear about more races in your future, love running! Good luck with everything!
You are soooo talented. I love the sewing and furniture projects!
