What she didn't post pictures of were our finds on the shopping trip. In case you haven't heard of SamMoon, you need to check out their website. We had fun browsing and came out with these beauties: I love this necklace...
PARKER has really grown up since my last visit in July. He started pre-school and I can't believe the difference it's made in him. I walked in to class with him one day and it was fun to meet his teacher and then watch him for a few minutes as he interacted with her and his friends.
And I really fell in love with GRAYDEN. He is much more cuddly than their other boys and he would just snuggle up on my shoulder. I love that! It doens't last for long though because then he wanted to go explore. His favorite thing is playing peek-a-boo. Grayden smiles a lot more than this picture shows...it's just that by the time the picture clicked, the smile was over.
In addition to the visit, there were also some traveling adventures.
- When I got to the airport in Phoenix, I went to the kiosk to check in. The computer told me that I was too late to check in luggage. I had to arrive 45 minutes early and it was now 43 minutes before the flight. I talked to a check in attendant and she was very snooty with me and told me that my option was to leave the luggage behind or put in on another flight (for a price). Then she proceeded to reprimand me for not being at the airport 2 hours early (hello...this was a domestic flight!). Luckily, another attendant came to my aid and said, "I have a man here who is on the same flight and I can easily get the luggage on the airplane." As it was, I sat at the gate for 30 minutes waiting. I was definitely there in plenty of time!
- For this flight I used the last of my frequent flyer miles. Those of you who remember Kevin remember that he traveled a lot so had accumulated a lot of free flights. Those were all transfered to my name and I have been very careful with them...I made them last 8 years. Pretty good, huh?
- I love talking to people on an airplane. Today, I sat next to an especially talkative woman who was going on a business trip. She is working on her PhD, has an interesting job in education, has 7 children, including 3 foster/adopted children. It's interesing who you meet on an airplane!
- Dallas/Fort Worth is a seriously confusing airport. The roads leading in to the airport twist and turn all over the place and you really have to pay attention to get to the right place. We were reading the signs very carefully and Katie dropped me off at terminal B...United airlines. When I got in, there was no United Airlines inside. I asked someone where the United gates were. She told me to go out the double doors and turn left. Turns out I had to walk the length of a city block (with 2 pieces of luggage and high heels) to get to where I was supposed to be. I was worried that I would be 43 minutes before my flight again and have to go through the mess of maybe not getting my luggage on the flight.
But I'm home safe and sound tonight with 2 more days of fall break before I go back to school Monday.

Welcome home Lauri. Sounds like you had a great visit with Katie and the family! Your pictures of them on the stairs was a riot! I told her to frame them just as is! I love the jewelry. I am a nut for jewelry anyways. I bought into Cookie Lee just so I could buy the jewelry half off. I have tons! Love your purse. Reminds me of the one I have had my eye on for months. Dooney.
Shame on that naughty airline employee who gave you a hard time about your luggage. I couldn't help but remember that funny scene in Meet The Fockers!!!
Enjoy the rest of your time off.
Sounds like a fun trip. Enjoy the rest of your Fall break. Mine (in Mesa Public Schools) is only two days long.
Sounds like a nice visit with Katie and fam. Way to go on stretching out and making great use of your frequent flier miles. Cute jewelry and purse! Great pics of your grandkids too. They all are so darling. I'd love to meet them one of these days...
And I believe the movie my Mom was talking about was "Meet The Parents", not the Fockers... Silly Mom.
Eight years? Man, Kevin travelled ALOT! That is cool that it lasted this long. Glad you had a fun time in Texas. Those boys are so darn cute. I'll bet you had a great time.
oh, and the jewelry is gorgeous.
Okay, so I love the purse and accessories you got there! I love all that you love about the boys- they are so adorable.
Second- I agree about Dallas airport- I once had to travel it seems like forever to get from terminal A to C - I had Alex, he was 18 months and I had just had the worst flight ever- it was a week after 9/11! We were on our way to CA to see Dana's parents and once we got to Dallas - I wanted to just stay there- though I hated the airport!
Anyway- so glad you had a great trip!
I can't believe those miles lasted you 8 years! That's impressive! And I agree... Dallas is confusing... and huge!
Just a clarification to all...I have paid for a lot of flights in the past 8 years. It's just that I have just used these freebies in between the paying ones. Man, I'm going to miss not having free ones anymore.
And as an interesting side note...on this trip, I had to pay a $10.00 service charge to use the tickets but had to pay $30.00 to check my luggage. Still not bad--$40.00 for a round trip ticket.
Nice pic of Gray. WHat the heck is that? IT doesn't look like him at all. Thanks for the visit. Glad you're home safe.
Lauri,
Thank you for your kind words! You have no idea how often I thought of you, during that terrible time when you lost your Kevin. And now, as we have reconnected, how often I think of you, and admire your tenacity, and the way you attack life, head on, as a single woman of faith.
What a great visit with your grand kids! I bet they love when grandma comes to see them! And making your miles last 8 yeras... WOW! Way to go! I think I'd have them used in a few years!
NOTHING like getting your babies in your arms huh? I have loved taking a peek at your boys and their personalities thru Katie's blog. Heidi and Jackson arrive tomorrow - can't wait! It's been two months... hate our kids being so far away! So glad you enjoyed your visit and shopping and hanging with your Katie!
Dear Lauri,
I hope you remember me - I lived in Gary and Karen's ward and we didn't discover how you are related to my last husband, Fred Palmer until his passing.
Wow- what a great blog you have! I found it coincidentally when I was catching up on your Greene nieces and nephew's blogs.
I would love to communicate with you by e-mail. Here's my e-mail address: rjcarter21@gmail.com.
Lauri - I normally don't read blogs all the way through. But I have been fascinated by what you have written. Thank you for sharing your heart and your thoughts. You are a very brave lady and a wonderful example! You are doing a great job of being successful in life. I just have this feeling that Kevin is saying, "Keep up the great work, Lauri!!"
I hope that I can keep in touch with you by e-mail, too! We have some interesting experiences in common.
Sincerely,
Rebecca (Palmer) Carter
P.S. I agree about your mother-in-law, Joan. She is an incredible lady, too and was so good to us when we lived in Arizona, with all that Fred went through. So were Gary and Karen and their family!
I'm so glad you were able to visit Katie and her family. It's so fun to be with grandchildren. (I can't believe your experience at the airport! What airline was it? It sure makes you not want to fly with them again.)
What a great trip! You always seem to have a great time there...who wouldn't with a wonderful daughter/son in law and 3 beautiful grandkids?! I didn't know you had all those frequent flyer miles- how cool!
