My Christmas Miracle

After six months of unemployment, my miracle has happened. I start work tomorrow. Surprised? I am. Who hires 2 weeks before Christmas? I am so grateful.

I got a call from someone when I was driving home from Phoenix one day. She told me her name and that she was the vice-president of Student Affairs at Paradise Valley Community College (yeah, that's the down side...it's 45 minutes away). She was looking at my resume that I had sent in on another position 5 months ago. Although that one was filled, she had something she thought I'd be well suited for. When I asked what the position was the phone malfunctioned and then cleared. I told her I'd love to come in for an interview (even though I had no idea what I was interviewing for). I had a good inteview with her but she told me that the position was part time and only went until June. I had a good interview but went home feeling that this wasn't what I needed. She called me the next day and offered me the position. I told her that I appreciated it but really needed a full time position and I hated to have her train me and get me up to speed only to have me leave when another position came up. She told me that she appreciated my honesty and that she'd continue to interview.

The next week I got another call from her and she asked if I'd re-consider. She reassured me that if anything came up I could leave at any time but she felt that I had a lot of offer this position. We decided that I'd work 3 days a week rather than go out there every day for 5 hours a day. She also told me that this position most likely will be full time next school year when the new budget gets approved...that would put me in the right place/right time!

Anyway, I'm starting tomorrow and will work full time this week and several days during Christmas break so I can get up to speed before a new semester begins.

My job will be to run the Early College program, which is for high school students who are dually enrolled in HS and College. By the time they graduate from HS, they have 35 credit hours and can transfer to any of the three state colleges and receive their Bachelors degree in 2 years.

So there you have it! My prayers have been answered.

I'm soooo happy for you, Lauri!!! I think you will be perfect for this position...smart, high school kids...what could be better than that. I'm sorry about the drive but, hey, you lived in California where everything is an hour away, right? Good Luck to you, I'm excited to hear the reports.
