When I got home from church, it seemed like a perfect day for soup. Katie gave me a recipe for a delicious and easy tortilla bean soup. It is made from things you always have on hand and it is ridiculous how tasty it is because it is so easy to make.
And then of course hot, homemade bread is always a good addition to soup on a cold, wet day like today. I have made bread a lot over the years but have never consistently made a good loaf. I recently went to a bread demonstration and finally learned the right consistency for bread dough. Now I can have success no matter which recipe I'm using.
The recipe I used today is a simple white bread and makes 2 loaves. I made one into cinnamon bread so I can enjoy that for breakfast this week. The other one is a spicy cheese bread that goes well with the tortilla soup.

Oh my gosh that soup and bread look SO delicous! I'd love to know that soup recipe!
Looks DELISH! Next time invite us over for dinner. (Don't I wish.)
PS...ever since that last post about the rain and all the songs with 'rain' in them, I've been tainted. I can't hear a song with the word 'rain' and not think, "Oh man...how did I forget that one?"
We've got a large pond at the school yard down the street right now. Too bad it doesn't freeze, it would be an awesome ice skating pond.
Love the bread recipe. I'll have to try it soon.
Lauri, this weekend was perfect soup and bread weather. We too made several loaves...I know...what a SHOCK!!! Two in the machine, and one by hand. You should take a look at Jim Lahey's book, and his method. SO easy. Your bread looks amazing. I wanted to reach in and pull a chunk off of the page!!!
My mouth is seriously watering! Can I have some please!??? I love rainy days, soup, and hot chocolate!
Wow, so delicious on a rainy day. I sure hope it rains again soon (but not Saturday when we are getting together to hike!)
Yea, we don't really love rain here, but then- this is Ohio, not Arizona. I guess when you get it as rare as you do, it would be pretty cool. That bread looks amazing!!!!
(I am praying for your son. I am so sorry.:(:()
Sorry about the rain! Be happy it's not snow, right?! OUr minds must have been on the same page, because on Sunday I made a tortilla soup too! But no yummy bread- bummer! Def. going to try that!!
The bread looks delicious!! I need to learn your secrets for good bread.
ps. We're praying for Mike...
The bread looks delish! What about the recipe for the soup? We've had lots of rain this year too, I've loved it but now I want Spring to come with lots of sunshine and blue skies. I love Spring in St. George, blossoms on the trees, the Art Festival and the Triathlon...ahhhh!
I will have to try that--looks soo good!
