The Unveiling

Sit down and relax, this might turn in to a very long blog.

I was determined not to spend any money on new holiday decorations this year but I relented and went to the grocery store for a few finishing touches...(only $10.00 worth). Do you ever think of the grocery store for holiday decor? This is what I found:

I also look for things along the way when I go for my walks. You should have seen my sister-in-law and I walking down McKellips Blvd. with these sticks in our hands! Anyway, I have found things like this: and this: and this: Here is what my house looks like:

These are my old ice skates from high school that I filled with holly and set beside one of my Christmas trees.

I love this little Charlie Brown Christmas tree. Jeff bought it for me.

I got these a little out of order but the bowl below is on my baker's rack. I have filled a bowl with snow, a few white balls, a pumpkin left over from the fall that I spray painted silver, several tree pods (also painted silver), and a few snowflakes.

The candles in the picture below are a tradition from Sweden. There are 4 candles in a tray. Four weeks before Christmas Eve, one candle is burned. The next week 2 candles, and so forth so on Christmas Eve all 4 candles are burning.

This is a little throw I made a few years ago and I love. I originally saw this at a friend's house and she had a very large throw made with real velvet and real fur. Mine is just tiny--made with real velvet and fake fur. But it adds a fun touch to this bench.

And now on to the tree:

I bought some Styrofoam cubes a few years ago and wrapped them up. They made good fillers for those holes that inevitably show up in a tree. I have used these for a few years now

My ornaments are all gold and/or green--some are new and some are old

And here is a little piece of the tree skirt I made a few years ago. I really like the fabric/color combination. I used rich decorator fabric like silk, velvet, and brocade.

And here's the tree. This picture doesn't do it justice. So there's my Christmas home tour. I can't wait to see some of yours.

I always love your house at Christmas time. Thanks for the virtual tour.

Second to my tree skirt, my favorite holiday decoration is my Santa blanket. I love it.

I forgot you decorate your tree with presents. They look good.

I adore that Charlie Brown tree.

And the glass bowls turned out fabulous. But did you really mean you filled them with snot? Or was that a typo? I'm just asking since you've been sick.

Well, thanks for the tour, and the laugh, because I am fairly certain the pretty bowl is not filled with SNOT, but rather with snow! I see Katie caught that too. I LOVE the tree skirt! I love the nature walk finds...I do the same thing, even taking along some snips from time to time, and I adore the Charlie Brown tree...but it is all so pretty and festive Lauri. Now, may I come over for a spot of tea!!!???

I wish we could come for the Fiesta Bowl- if dreams came true! Thanks for the invite, but I promise that someday soon we will take you up on it- we talked about it today- we are going to put our house up in the early spring, and head somewhere- hopefully near the warmth!! I will keep you updated!

Wow!! Very nice!!! :) And, no, sorry- you won't be getting a tour of my house when we get all decorated. Let's just say between me have NO decorative insight and having 4 small children..... well, it is just lucky I decorate at all. :)

Lauri,

Loved the tour as well!! You surely are the best at making gorgeous the most simple pleasures in life!
As far as the rules for "PETE!" You put the candies in a circle, one person leaves the room, and you choose one candy to be PETE! The person comes back in the room and starts picking up the candies one at a time, and keeps collecting until they touch the one that is named "PETE!" They eat up the candy they collected!

Hi Lauri, I found your blog from Kris' blog and I'm so happy to see what you've been up too. I ask about you whenever I see someone who might know you, but mostly I have kept tabs on you from Diane I., she lives on my street and we walk two mornings a week. I loved the post about your Christmas decor, I got some cute ideas, thanks. We have a new son-in-law from Arizona and so we have visited there a little this past year, in fact, we will be there one week from today for the BYU/ASU basketball game on Saturday. Hope you have a Merry Christmas!! Nancy

I love your Two Cents! Thanks for finding me. Isn't blogging fun? I wish I had hours a day to spend doing it.
I am so glad you found me. You are such a dear friend.
Who could make magic with a few oranges, apples and sticks????Lauri, of COURSE!!
Looking through your pictures and reading about Kevin brought back so many many memories.
I can't wait to tell Craig who found me.

Hi Lauri, How fun to hear from you!! I, too, have very fond memories of our years in Y.W. in Corona Stake, that was a magical time in my life. I'm so happy I found your blog and can catch up on you and your life. I would love to see you in AZ. I'm not sure if I will be near where you live...our son-in-law's family lives in Gilbert, we are staying in Scottsdale at the J.W. Marriott Desert Ridge and we are going to the BYU/ASU game on Saturday and I think that's in Phoenix. Will we be anywhere near you?
