A very BENSON Christmas

Last night I began the long, arduous process of taking down the Christmas decorations. When you decorate nearly every room of your home, this is quite a task and one that I don't enjoy. Michael is on his way back to Utah today. All of the delicious treats we've been eating for the past several weeks are gone. I guess Christmas is really over and it's been a wonderful holiday season.

Having the boys home is always fun. I don't know how two brothers could be so totally different in nearly every way. But it's fun to watch their interactions; they really keep me entertained. Here's some of the things we did:

Rock Band! I think my boys really think they are rock stars. I even got in on the action once or twice and I've never played a video game. Can't say I'm a huge fan.

Michael is my fix-it guy. He installed new lighting in my back yard, got everything to replace my brakes and then told me the good news...I don't need new brakes. Repaired a leak in my sprinklers, and gave my car a once-over. The nice thing is that I didn't even have to ask him. He asked me what I needed to have repaired (and there's always a list!)

We served Christmas dinner to the homeless at the Phoenix Rescue Mission

Had the missionaries over for dinner...it wasn't actually THESE missionaries, but we fed them nonetheless. I enjoy having the missionaries over for dinner but don't get to do it too often.

Grandma Benson came for dinner and a visit with her grandsons. She enjoyed having them pick her up and take her home. Good food, good conversation, and a fun game of Dominoes.

Put together a puzzle. Here's the story, I bought a jigsaw puzzle for us for Christmas. The boys just laughed at me and refused to work on it. I have spent way too much time with it; yep, I have no life! Of all of the things I could do with my time while I'm off school, this is what I did. There is something about this time of year that makes me think I need to put a puzzle together. Cindy, did we always have one of these in our home at Christmastime when we were growing up? I noticed you had one out the other night at your house too.

And we ate way too much! It's time to start exercising again!

Happy New Year!

Sounds like a nice holiday. It's always fun to have the kids around, but hard to have them leave, at least that is the case for me. Have a wonderful 2009. Let's get together for lunch sometime soon. :-D

That is a great picture of you.
Glad you had a fun and full holiday. Your boys really are rock stars. Wish there was a picture of you playing guitar.
I think we may have done an occassional puzzle growing up, but it is a holidy tradition in Dave's family. His mom loved jigsaw puzzles. You started the tradition in our family. Your gift to us our first year we were married was an incredibly hard jigsaw puzzle. We've had one out every Christmas since then.

You have raised good sons! How nice it is to have a fix it one in the bunch! They totally look like rock stars!! I love your outfit- Santa was good to you, too, huh?!
I am with ya with the little sadness of taking it all down- we did it last night, and I am a bit more teary about it than I thought. I just love Christmas!

I love your weekly words of wisdom...it's good to have another chance to do it right. Your Holidays looked like they were festive and perfect! I love to be around family and play games and laugh. I love the pics of your home...I wish my home looked that way but I am WAY too lazy to put forth the effort! Have a great New Years!

Lauri,
You look wonderful! If you ate too much, it certainly does NOT show! Now, I am another story!!!
Glad you got to at least be with your boys. I know you must have wished that all three of the kids and their families could all be together with you, but when they all get spread out, that become so difficult. Happy New Year!!

Hi Lauri, I enjoyed your Christmas post so much. It's fun to hear about what others do for the holidays. It sounds like you have taught your children about the wonderful gift of service, how nice of Michael to help you in so many ways. I wonder if we have a Rescue Mission here (I feel embarrassed that I don't even know), I'm going to look into that and see if we can do some service next Christmas Day. I wish you a wonderful New Year, I'm on the "lookout" for you (I love this kinda stuff)!!

Wow! What a great Christmas! :) I am sure it was wonderful to have both boys there with you. Let them laugh at you about the puzzle- better than some goofy video game.... ;)

Why didn't you include a picture of you on the drums? Kind of Karen Carpenterish - you know "don't you remember you told me you loved me baby."

I also hate taking down Christmas decorations... I'm glad I don't have as many as you do! Glad you had such a fun Christmas with your boys! I wouldn't even recognize Michael! I think it's been 10 years since I've seen him!
