Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?

I guess if there is anything good about children/grandchildren living 3 states away, it's the excitement and anticipation of a visit with them. Katie, Spencer, and the boys are coming this weekend for a week. Although I try to get out to see them about every 4 months, they get out this way every other year (one year they visit the Benson side and the next year they make the trek to visit with the Smith's).

When I was a kid, we didn't live close to our grandparents either so it was very exciting to me when grandpa and grandma came for a visit or when we went to their house. I guess that's always been how I deal with the fact that I don't see my grandchildren as often as I'd like...because it's not so often, my hope is that they get REALLY excited about coming to see me.
Katie and Spencer finally broke the news to the kiddos that they were going on a road trip to Arizona to visit Grandma Benson (they make it a point not to tell them things too early because it's too hard to wait). Evidently Parker is so excited that he's telling everyone he sees...school teacher, primary teacher, school friends, even people he doesn't know. I'm sure the other two boys are equally anxious...who wouldn't be? :)
Truthfully, there's as much anticipation for me as there is for them. Saturday can't come soon enough.

I'm still wondering if I told them too soon. We have to count the days at least hourly. Parker can understand days but Reid asks evertime he goes to bed...even nap time...if we're going to grandma's when he wakes up.

The trip takes up a good 90% of our conversations. Parker already can't sleep...which means Reid doesn't either. Parker is really into making books (stapling his pictures together and adding text.) Yesterday he made a book about three alien brothers who were going to visit their grandma.

I'm excited, but I'll be much happier when the car ride is over.

I'm excited for you!! What a wonderful treat. In a week Brent has a business trip to Chicago. Jacob is off track so we're going with him. After his 3 day conference we are driving 3 1/2 hours to visit with Amy and her family for a few days. I can hardly wait.

Awesome! I am sure you will have a great time. Give them a big hug for me!

I think it is awesome that you make such an effort to see them. We are lucky to live really close to my parents and Aaron's dad. But, his mom lives in Florida. We went down there to visit her 1 1/2 years ago. We have not been able to afford going back yet. She has not come up here once. She has met the girls twice in their life. Sad. It bothers me some.

Hooray for Gramma days!! It's sounds like the boys think this is bigger than Christmas! For Grandma Benson, they have a whole week of sleepless nights!!

I must admit I'm really happy that I live near the majority of my grandchildren and that I get to see them regularly, sometimes daily BUT the other side of that coin is that they are never all that excited to see us, their grandparents. It's just the routine for them. So I love hearing about the excitement for all of you as you anticipate this visit. I hope you all have a wonderful time and don't forget to take lots of pictures and share them with your blogging friends!!
