Miserable!!!!

I heard on the news last week that Phoenix ranked MOST MISERABLE city of 20 metropolitan cities in the US. It wasn't because of the hot summer temperatures (although they are miserable) or the horrible allergy season (s)--also miserable! It was due to unemployment rates, gas prices, and home values. And not only was Phoenix the worst, we were the worst by a wide margin. I knew things were bad here but I didn't realize how bad.

In all fairness to the Valley of the Sun, I have to list a few things that I like about Arizona.
  • beautiful sunsets
  • summer time swimming at 10:00 at night and not getting chilly (or at 6:00 in the morning, for that matter)
  • minimal traffic...in comparison to Southern California
  • the desert in the spring when everything is in bloom
  • great Mexican food restaurants
  • summer thunderstorms
  • the Superstition Mountains
  • the smell of the orange blossoms in the spring
  • perfect weather for eating Thanksgiving dinner outside
Miserable? No way!

I love that you love where you live!!!!
I too love where I live!!! I do not like to hear people complain about their town. I say, move!!!

I don't know mom...I was there one July while pregnant. That is the most miserable trip I've ever been on.

However, the smell of the orange blossoms and desert rain just about make up for it. Heavenly smells come from that place.

Plus, you get to garden most of the year.

There are negative things about any place you can live. Good for you for finding the positive. (Your miserable heat in the summer probably compares to the miserable cold in our winter. You just have to stay inside when it is that miserable.)

Katie, you silly girl . . . you came in July??
I always wonder why those ranking will put a company or a city or a school system as the WORST. Our gas prices are bad, but way less than I saw in Anaheim last week.
I love Phoenix. I love your list.

So much to love here in Phoenix...including the fact that we will soon have THREE temples here! Phoenix is also the "cleanest looking" big city I think I've ever been in. I also love the hiking and sunsets! I can think of many more "miserable" places, but ultimately it's all in the attitude! Thanks for the post.

Your list reminds me why I miss living there - the ranking list reminds me why I moved:)
