Potpouri

Although I enjoy reading other's blogs, I don't seem to find time myself to do much blogging.  (and there's also the fact that my life is boring and I don't have much to blog about).  Anyway, here's a few things that have been going on lately.

  • apparently, one of my responsibilities at work is to set off the fire alarm when we have fire drills.  Yesterday I had to go into the storage room where the alarm is housed, call the monitoring company and have them take us off-line (so the fire department doesn't show up) and then set the alarm.  You can't imagine how loud it was in that room.  It scared me to death and I knew that it was going to go off!  I couldn't believe how quickly 400 students evacuated the building and how orderly they were.  We got the building cleared in 4 minutes and the students didn't make a sound (not even a peep) as they were walking outside.  It was amazing!  I remember the days when I worked at the middle school and the bedlam that began when the fire alarm went off.  The students used it as a time to socialize and it took forever for them to get back into the classroom afterwards.
  • I've been on a sewing kick lately (probably because I haven't been able to find any decent clothes at the store).  I used this black and white skirt from Pinterest as my inspiration and the pink skirt is my version.

  • As I was pulling into my garage the other night, a cute little 7 year old on a bicycle stopped me and asked if I'd like a bag of oranges.  I told her I would love some and asked how much she was selling them for.  She said they were free but she just wanted to give them to me...and then asked if I'd like another bag.  Her family recently moved into the neighborhood and they were picking oranges off the trees in their backyard and taking them to their new neighbors.  There is nothing as good as fresh squeezed orange juice.
  • And speaking of citrus, thanks to my niece, Roni, for keeping me supplied with pink grapefruit from the tree in their backyard.  I have really been enjoying grapefruit for breakfast.
  • I have become an expert at crock pot cooking.  Well, probably not an expert but I have tried a lot more in the crock pot than i ever have in my life.  A few days ago, I made lasagna that was delish!  Tonight I made a meatloaf that I will put in the crock pot tomorrow before I go to work.  Crock  pot meatloaf is so juicy and tender!  I double wrapped a potato in foil and set it in there too and will have dinner just about ready when I get home from work.
  • Summer is coming.  It is supposed to be 90 on Saturday.

I  think that is all for now...see, I told you my life is boring.

Not boring at all. I should use my crock pot more. Meatloaf sounds good. Also, Melanie thinks I need to make her an Easter dress since this is her last year before she is all grown up. Your skirt looks fun. Melanie may have a matching one next week!

btw - your word verification is HARD! It took me 5 tries to type those 2 words. (either that or I'm awfully tired tonight)

I love that you get fresh oranges and grapefruit. I miss that! It is hard to believe that it is already so hot. (We are finally getting a few days when it gets up to 32 degrees.)
Good for you for sewing such cute clothes. I'll have to admit that I have never enjoyed sewing for myself. I have to make too many alterations. :)

Meatloaf should not be allowed anywhere. Just think about it...meatloaf. Who wants a loaf of meat? Disgusting.

The skirt is adorable! And I'm so jealous of your citrus.
