Favorite Books:
These is My Words I read this book a few months ago and loved it. It is the story of pioneer Arizona. My grandmother grew up in rural Arizona in the early 1900's. I loved hearing her stories about life in that time and this reminded me of something she would have enjoyed.
Ladies of the Club This book was listed as THE book to read about fifteen years ago. I picked it up and read it over a summer (it has a lot of pages!) The story is of two young girls in Victorian times who, when they graduated from high school, were invited to join a ladies book club. It tells the lives of these two girls as they interact with the other women in the group, marry, have children, and deal with struggles through their lives.
Favorite CD's
Yeah, CD's are becoming obsolete and I actually have downloaded this music on my i-pod but some of my all time favorites are:
Nora Jones Come Away With Me
Renee Olmstead
Boz Skaggs Silk Degrees
BYU Men's Chorus Awake my Soul
Favorite Movies
I'm not a person who loves to watch movies more than once...except the movie Return to Me. I pull that out about once a year and watch it again. It is a sweet romantic comedy.
When it comes to musicals, I could watch them again and again. I have two favorites: My Fair Lady and The Music Man. A few years ago, a re-make of Music Man was done with Matthew Broderick and Kristin Chenoweth. I love that version every bit as much as the original.
I still love Ferris Bueller's Day Off...especially the parade scene singing TWIST and SHOUT! You have to get the cleaned up version of the movie though...the language is awful (or you can check out youtube and find just that scene). Great 80's movie.
Favorite Food
Unfortunately, this could be my biggest list but I'm going to limit this to only one. If you haven't tried Ranier Cherries, you need to. Yes, they're about $6.00 a pound and are only in the stores for a couple of weeks a year, but it is well worth the splurge
Those who know me know how much I love Hollywood Bowl. In the summertime, the LA Philharmonic puts on outdoor concerts at the Bowl. The weekends are devoted to those who aren't especially conisiours of classical music so they add some well known performers. We have heard Natalie Cole, John Denver, Kenny Rogers, Kenny Logins, and Michael Feinstein all singing with a full orchestra backing them up. AWESOME! The most fun, though, is 4th of July when they have a full performance and then a 30 minute fireworks show all synchronized to patriotic music. We always pack a gourmet picnic and enjoy the evening.
A few years ago, I also discovered the Tuachan Theater in St. George, Utah. It also is an outdoor amphitheater that puts on two shows over the summer an alternating nights. The kids and I went to Fiddler on the Roof several years ago and my sister and I took a road trip last summer to see My Fair Lady. Both outstanding performances.
Since I've lived in Arizona, I have become a fan of Hale Center Theater. It is a local community theater in the round (there is also one in Glendale, CA and Orem, Utah). They too can do remarkable productions on a small stage. Favorites I have seen have been, The Scarlet Pimpernel and Forever Plaid.
And finally, a friend introduced me to the Jesterz here in Arizona. This is an improv comedy club and it is hilarious. I'm always amazed that people can be so funny off the top of their heads. It is LDS run and family appropriate. A great place to spend a Saturday night!
Places to shop
Well, again, I have MANY but I wanted to mention CHICO's. I haven't ever bought clothing there but their jewelry if wonderful. My sister-in-law introduced me to this and I have found some really fun, inexpensive jewelry. Their sales are great (and often). Check it out!
Target is an all time favorite. No matter when you go, there is always something on sale. A friend and I decided if we had only one place to shop, we'd choose Target. It has food, clothing, housewares, garden, children, shoes, electronics, etc. etc. Who wouldn't love a store like that?!
Favorite kitchen appliance

OK, so I've only had it for 3 days, but it could quickly become a favorite. This puts a whole new spin on a grilled sandwich. Try this: sourdough bread spread with pesto sauce. Top with ham, provolone, and roasted peppers. Brush bread with olive oil before putting on the press. DELECTABLE!
Favorite smell
The desert after a rain storm. Need I say more? Heavenly!
...I simply remember my favorite things and then I don't feel so bad!

My favorite thing is after you asked,"Need I say more?" You did. (Heavenly.) I don't know why I thought that was funny.
That is a fantastic list! I love that you love Target too and I have heard of the great things at Chico's! Love the panini idea- will so have to try. I think you are quite the eclectic lady with fine tastes- I will keep it all in mind!
You named two of my all time favorites right at the top of your list: Norah Jones and Return to Me. LOVE them!
Great list!!!
Pesto and sourdough? Sounds great. I also like Return to Me. And I LOVE that scene in Ferris B's day off.
I've always loved the song "My Favorite Things", the words are great. I love Norah Jones, and the smell of the mountain pines after it rains. I'll have to try the books you read, they sound great. You have such a talent for writing, you make even the simplest things sound great.
I absolutely love your list. When I fell in love with Return to Me, so many had not heard of it. when I find it on sale at Target, I load up for gifts. Thanks for visiting my blog. I am so jealous that you got your book illustrated. I have written four, but have yet to have the gumption to ask my nephew or brother in law who are illustrators and animators to help me out. Maybe now I will. You are the best! You should publish yours for sure!!!
Hi Laurie, I didn't know you started a blog. Good for you. I want my mom do start one also. It is such a fun way to keep in touch and keep up on life. Your blog is so fun to read, you write really well just like Katie. Thanks again for your help on my mom's book it turned out great.
I'll have to check out "These is My Words," I did check out "Ladies of the Club" but couldn't get through the first chapter. I have a much smaller brain. I tell my kids that I abhor Ferris Buehler, but secretly it is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. I miss the Hollywood Bowl. Once Brad and I went to Sergio Mendez and Brazil 66 - thought it would be great. It was CRAZY, the crowds were CRAZY, OUT OF CONTROL - we left early and then remembered that our car was parked behind 5 others. Favorite was also 4th of July. How can you say you love cherries best - I guess that's why your figure is vertical and mine is growing horizontally. Notice that I added "friends" a milestone in computer literacy. PS I don't edit blog responses or my blog for that matter.
I love your list. I especially liked the musicals you listed. They are some of my favorite. I also like Camelot and The King and I. I'm going to have to try the cherries.
My Fair Lady and The Music Man are by far my favorite Musicals as well (although I haven't seen the new one yet). And that play you went to last summer (My Fair Lady). My sister-in-law's sister was in it. I can't remember if she had the lead or not, but I really wanted to see it.
I love reading your blog!! The list is great- I am so renting Return to Me 'cause I haven't seen it. Norah Jones is one of my favorites too!
I too have been to the Tuachan theater. So nice. My husband took me there when we were dating! SO FUN!
