I bought a new i-pod this week. My old one stopped working and I have been frustrated not having one for a few weeks. Several years ago, Jeff gave me one of his older ones and I was thinking, "what will I ever do with this?" It was a few months before I even put any music on it and then a while longer before I used it. Then I was hooked. I love listening to it when I go on my walks and it's great on an airplane (especially when you're sitting by someone you're not interested in talking to).
It got me thinking of other things that I think I can't live without that weren't even around at one point in my life such as:
ATM's and Debit cards
Computers/internet
Cell phones
Ziplock bags
Microwave oven
Blow dryer and flat iron
Rolling luggage
Boy, have I been around a long time! What are some of the things you can't live without now but that you haven't always had?

I think I am possibly the last person on earth that doesnt have an ipod.
The internet is something I could never live with out.. Namely mapquest. How did people find their way before this handy website?
No ipod for me either... I have enough music from my four kids to keep my ears ringing.
I could not do without my port-a-crib, double jogger stroller, keyless entry, and flip flops.
I too, do not have an ipod, though my husband does, and when I run outside I use it- can't use it when I run on the tread inside, because I have to be able to hear the crazy kids I have running around during that time!!
I could not live without a cordless phone, keyless entry, power windows and locks, my high speed internet, online banking and bill pay, carts that keep my children entertained at the grocery, Target, Kohl's, and DVR (which we just got a month ago!!)
Wow, that was a lot, and I could keep going, but I will stop!
Great post!!
Love the name of your post. The phrase "new-fangled makes you sound about 20 years older than you are!
I'm afraid of getting an ipod for fear I won't be able to live without one, sounds like that from many people.
For me? Tivo.
My list is almost exactly like yours. I have to join the “I don’t have an ipod” gang. For me in addition, can’t live without my digital camera, and that took me a long time to start to use. My computer, and my Clip Art membership to PC Crafter. Blow dryer and round brush, and Amazon .com
I love that you had a dash in iPod...
Oh... cell phone, digital camera, and definetly the internet! what did we do before these things?
A few years ago we were at a small church social. The High Priest Group leader asked what was the greatest modern-day invention. I yelled out, "ziplock baggies." The man's mouth dropped open. He had expected someone to say "computers" or some other high tech thing. I still stick by my answer though. I couldn't live without them.

I am in the " I don't have an Ipod yet " category too! I could NOT live w/o: The internet, cell phones, digital photography, GPS in my car!!!!! Just to mention a few things!

Hi Lauri-
Good post, I love that you love your ipod! We need to get my mom one! She would love it I think. I just got my husband a new one because he had the very first ipod classic that ever came out! Back then it was so expensive and so big! His new one is much nicer. I have a nano, which is just the right amount of memory for me. I could not workout without it. And like my Mom, I could not get around without the GPS in my car as well! I guess I get my sense of direction from her! =)
I have thought about the very thing of ziplocs and rolling luggage. What simple inventions that has made all of our lives so much easier!! I have a lot of things on your list too. Besides those that you mentioned, I am SO grateful for a washer, dryer and car. Bigger items and probably very obvious, but I cannot imagine life without them. OH. And air conditioning.
Oh my gosh, I have thought so many times over the years the one thing, the dishwasher. Remember when there were nine of us kids at home, and dad would say "we have a dishwasher, you kids". I love my washer & dryer to.
