Let's Eat!!

I have a thing for dishes. I love to spend time in stores such as William Sonoma and Pier 1 just to look at dishes and place settings. Over the years I have collected quite a few dishes--I think my count is up to 12 sets of dishes. Here's a peek into one of my weaknesses.

1. Spode Christmas dishes. My two aunts had this set and I always admired the beautiful table they set with these. Over the years, I have bought a few of them at after Christmas sales and now have a servings for 12 along with many several serving pieces.

2. These dishes were a steal. I found them in the dollar store last year and I LOVE them. I had fun with the black and white at Halloween, then added some red chargers and used them for Christmas and Valentines.

3. These are fun dishes for summer time; indoors or outdoors

4. Fiesta ware has become popular in recent years. This is an original set of fiestaware from the 1940's. It belonged to my grandmother. I remember when I was young and we spent time at her house, us kids would always argue over who got what color.

5. My Noritake that I registered for when I got married 30 years ago. I still love these dishes.

6. These fun dishes were bought in Mexico when my parents were on an anniversary trip many, many years ago. It's fun to use these when I fix Mexican food. They are probably loaded with lead and are dangerous to eat on but I haven't died yet:)
7. These also belonged to my mother. They were her fine China and I remember using them every Thanksgiving when we were growing up. They still make a striking table setting.
8. Gotta have white dishes! They go with anything, any time of year!

9. I picked up these leaf-shaped dishes at Walmart a few years ago. I had seem something similar at Pottery Barn for $8.00 a plate. I got them for $1.39. They're fun to use in the Fall.

10.I use these fun barndishes much more than I ever thought I would.

11. I found red dishes at Pic and Save years ago. That store doesn't even exist any more...it's now Big Lots. Anyway, I paid $.99 each for them and I have had them for about 20 years. They're great because they can be used for Christmas time, Valentines, or 4th of July.

12. And finally these cute star plates. My sister-in-law gave them to me years ago. I use them not only for 4th of July, but also New Years. Fun!

I always say people think you're a good cook if the table looks appealing. This is how I fake a good meal.

My favorite...hands down...are the fiesta ware. What I wouldn't give for an original set!

Followed by the Mexican dishes. I COMPLETELY forgot about them and love them.

The barn dishes are probably tied with the red dishes for third.

I'm sure I could do a similar post, but Spencer always makes fun of me when I do things like get out all my dishes and take picture of them just for the purpose of blogging. Maybe one day I can get all my kids asleep at the same time while Spencer's at work...but until that happens, no pictures of my dishes.

I remember when I first came to your home, and you had your star dishes out! It was so fun and then you shared how you collect great sets! My best thing is that you are not a dish snob, and welcome your dollar store finds! You are such a gracious hostess, and use them all, it is great! My question....Where do you keep them all?

Lauri-

Since my Mom is on vacation this week I HAVE to comment in her place because she would go nuts over this post you did! She LOOOOVES dishes! She also collects all kinds of sets. She will have to show hers when she gets home. I wish I had the same enthusiasm as she did about dishes, but I guess I have not aquired it yet. I do love nice crisp looking white dishes though. I don't even know how many sets my Mom has, but I'll bet it is right up there with yours. Beautiful pieces you have! Do you like Semi-Homeade with Sandra Lee on the cooking channel? She always does a beautiful and reasonably priced tablescape.

And Katie- Who cares if Spencer laughs at you taking pictures of your dishes!! C'mon!! I'll do it if you do it! =)

I've had many wonderful meals at your house. Is it just the lovely tablesetting? Are you really not a good cook?
And I'm curious too -- where to you keep all those dishes?

You have such a unique collection!I Love them all!! I do love dishes, and have a few sets, nothing major, but just got Christmas plates on clearance at Kohl's last year for .80 cents a plate!! One broke already, but 7 is still okay!
My mom has the Nikko set like the Spode one- they are fantastic, and I will get them one day from her- she has all the matching pieces.
I love dollar store plates- sometimes they have really great things!
Love that you picked some up in Mexico! THey are really cute!
I have a thing for plastic bowls - I seem to accumulate them- most recently the ones from Ikea that Katie has- they are so versatile, and I use them for everything!

I never thought someone could own so many sets of dishes! I love all of them and I love that most of them have history behind them. Thats makes them even better! And to add to Genn's comment... you remind me of Sandra Lee from the Food Network. So cute and suzi homemaker-like... Just like Kristi!

WOW!!!! I ADORE dishes!! And anything to do with table settings! I have oodles of dishes, and oodles of silverware, and oodles of chargers, and table cloths and table runners!! If ONLY I had room, then I would have even more! I have always wanted a "dish room."
I just got home from vacation, but while I was away, Genny told me about your post. I couldn't wait to see it. I will put mine up as soon as I have time! Loved seeing all of your pretty dishes!! Boy could WE cause some shopping trouble if you still lived here!!!!
