Today was the 8th day of school. Here's some of the middle school highlights so far this year.
1. I overheard a group of 7th grade boys in one of my classes talking about who had the most facial hair. Truthfully, none of them did but they were certainly comparing.
2. A girl (I don't even know her name, I never had her in any class but she always talks to me) came running up to me on the second day of school saying, "guess who likes me?!" Of course I guessed right away by the excitement in her voice. It was the boy she had a crush on all last year but he didn't give her the time of day. I asked her if she still liked him. Her answer was, " no, I like so and so but he doesn't know who I am." Ahhhh young love!
3. A band geek-y kid always sits on the wall right outside my classroom waiting for the bell to ring in the morning. As he waits, he gets out his saxophone and begins to play. It sounds like a wailing animal, not music. He annoys all of the students. The funny thing is that as he's playing, he has his case open by his feet and several teachers and administrators have dropped money inside. This kid's going to be rich by the end of the year.
4. A kid brought a gun to school. Seriously! A twelve year old with a gun. Scary, huh?
It's going to be a great year.

You are a brave soul! But once a sister in my ward who taught Junior High said, "I just think of them as Beehives and Scouts, and who doesn't love them! I just see the hard ones and those who need more love and understanding" We need more like YOU Two who see the best in these kids during these crazy years in their lives.
I laughed at the group of boys comparing facial hair. So typical. And a GUN! Seriously? I hope he was expelled at the very least.
Very funny... except for the boy who brought a gun... seriously, what are they thinking? And where and why does a 12 year old even have access to a gun?!
wow! Reminds me of my school (minus the gun.) That is scary!! Makes me wonder about sending my kids to school- why does that keep happening??
Oh mercy....a gun! Buy a bullet proof vest Lauri! Love the sax guy.....what a thinker!
How many people have a job with something different going on every day of the week? Lucky lucky you!
Thank you for the sweet comments on my blog. We are enjoying this new adventure, but it surely feels weird being home in a much quieter house, which I am sure I don't need to tell you! thank you for your love and friendship!
I love these notes. I had such a rocky year teaching but I LOVE these types of things. I think teenage behavior is so fascinating. Especially flirting. Have a good year!!
Kids these days... tsk tsk. By the way Aunt Lauri, I love your new picture. Reminds me much more of you. :)
