I Got You Babe

Today (Sept. 7) is Katie's 27th birthday. Join me in a trip down memory lane.

This was taken in front of her great-grandpa and grandma Stowell's house when she was 9 months old.
Here is Katie on her 8th birthday. This was one of Kevin's favorite pictures of her.

Kevin and I went to Sweden and brought back this Santa Lucia outfit.

After a whole year of Katie dressing like a boy, Kevin suggested she go get a glamor shot so she could see a different side of who she was.

Here we are at Girls Camp one year. She and I had a theme song of, "I Got You Babe." We sang it in the camp talent show. I still think of Katie when I hear that song and how all conversations would come to a stop so we would sing it full blast whenever it came on the radio.

Katie's love for costumes goes way back. Here is one of my favorites that she put together...Mary Poppins. While I'm on the subject of costumes, I have to side track for a minute and tell a story. Katie has long had a box of costumes. When she was getting ready to go off to college, she brought all of the things she was taking and started making a pile downstairs. The pile was getting bigger and bigger and I wasn't sure how we were going to fit everyting in, even though we had a big suburban. And then she brought down her big box of costumes. I told her that they simply couldn't go. She went and packed the car herself and sure enough, she made it all fit, there was room for all of us in the car, and we could still see out the window. It reminded me of a family pioneer story about packing the wagon. Her pioneer ancestors would be proud.

Katie was on the cross country team in high school. She always amazed us with her running abilities--especially since noe of the rest of us could do it.

Here she is on the homecoming court her senior year.

Also her senior year...

Graduation 1999

Playing super heros with some of her friends. (And yes, they actually went out in public looking like this.) No wonder her kids like to play super heros.

What a change--from superhero to a beautiful bride.

Katie was a fun child to raise. We had and continue to have a lot of fun together. She has taught me to enjoy life. Now that she is married and raising children, I am often in awe of her as I see all she is accomplishing. Happy birthday, Katie!

Now I know how everyone feels when I do a flashback of them...helpless. I have no problem posting embarrassing pictures of myself. No problem at all. But the glamor shot picture is the ONLY ONE I've ever come across that I swore I would never post. I hate that picture.

Besides that...it was very much appreciated. Thanks.

And though our theme song was "I've got you babe," I believe we sang "I enjoy being a girl" at the girls camp talent show.

Also...thanks for reminding me that I am indeed a superhero. I forgot about Super Friends. My kids would be proud.

thanks...love you.

Katie has indeed become a Superwoman in all definitions of the word. She of course had the best role model ever to help to create this wonderful woman/girl we are privileged to know and love!Happy Birthday sweet little momma! (I'm with Katie, I believe 'I enjoy being a girl' was what you dazzled us all with!)

Happy Birthday Katie!!! Hope you have a good one! Grayden looks so much like you when you were 9 months old! And I happened to love your glamour shot photo. You looked gorgeous. And the Mary Poppins costume, wow that was a good one. Wherever did you find that perfect bag and gloves to top it all off?

What an awesome post. Ever since I met Katie she has been one of my favorite people- I just love her- and miss her dearly. She does truly seem like she would have been a great kid to raise. I can't imagine her ever dressing like a boy. :) Congrats on raising such a wonderful daughter! I can only imagine how proud you are! :)

Hey Laurie. This is Ben. I just read Mike's blog about the BYU game and I couldn't post a comment on his but I have to say that post was excellent and should be sent into ESPN.

I loved reading both Jeff and Katie's bday tributes. I laughed so hard when you mentioned Parker and Reid's obsession with costumes maybe having something to do with Katie's costume obsession! : )
