One more birthday...

Meet my sister, Cindy (go here to check out her fun blog). September 14 is her birthday. She is now going by Cynthia but I can't seem to make the change after all of these years. So Cindy, this one's for you!

Cindy is 4 years younger than me and I can still remember when she was born. My dad was having a meeting in the dining room and my mom sent me in to tell him that her water broke. I didn't know what that meant but the meeting ended quickly, my brother and I were rushed off to a neighbors house and a few days later, we had a new baby at our house.

Cindy and I shared a bedroom when we were growing up, including a double bed. I remember us talking and talking and talking late into the night. When we finally decided we were all talked out, one of us would say, "Order in the court, monkey wants to speak, speak monkey speak, first one to speak is a monkey for a week." Neither of us would say a word after that and we would fall asleep quickly. We even had our own language. I'm not sure where we learned it because I know we weren't smart enough to come up with it on our own but we learned to speak in IVES..rivemivembiver thivat, Civindivy?
(I was 12 here and Cindy was 8)

The years went by and I got married....

and Cindy went off to college
and it was a few years until we were both in the same place in life again raising children. But Cindy and I have always shared a close relationship like only sisters can. Katie once told me that she can always tell when I'm talking to my sister on the phone because we laugh so much. It's been fun living in Arizona so we can see each other more often. A few years ago, we had a slumber party at my house. We decided to get together, watch movies, swim, shop, etc. without going anywhere. Last year, we took a road trip together to St. George to see My Fair Lady at the Tuacan Theater. I don't think we ever stopped talking the entire drive there or back. We had such a fun time. She treated me to a Josh Grobin concert a few years ago. What fun! One of the best gifts came 2 Christmas's ago when her family gave me a family work day. That is the best gift someone can give a single woman. The whole family offered their services to me for an entire Saturday. They repaired a hole in the wall from a plumbing problem, replaced a shower head, put new dead bolts on my doors, and patched/painted my patio overhang. What a appriciated gift!

Cindy is a lot more gentle and soft spoken than I am and she is such a patient mom. She knows how to do roof repairs, lay tile, demolish kitchens and bathrooms. But she also is a great artist, church organist, leader, and early morning seminary teacher.

It's so fun having Cindy close by. Happy Birthday, Cindy

I am so enjoying your blog, Lauri. I have two sisters and when we all get together there is a lot of laughter and fun. You are blessed that your sisters live close. One of mine lives in Colorado, the other in New York.
Have a great week.

awww, you are a great blogging celebrator of all birthdays. And there have been a whole lot of them in a row. Thanks. I like the picture of you and me together. I also appreciate mom being ever so careful to have us combed and polished for every photograph that was ever taken of us when we were little. I haven't been quite that good. I've got (and saved) quite a lot of our little family looking our very worst.

I think I could still pull off a full conversation with you! (remember the dating game too?) Dad used to knock on the door a dozen times before we finally shut up at night. And we shared a double bed for years. Who does that any more?
Anyway, fun going down memory lane. Thanks for the birthday blog surprise!

Wow! What a fun sister! It is amazing how much you look like Katie in those younger pictures (which I think you two look alike now, so not sure why I am surprised!) I love having sisters- I have two myself.

I can't believe it about those muffins...UNREAL!!! As if they are really taking the "high road"- that is rediculous! That is anything but the high road.
