When I was 12, I spent the summer with my grandparents. I met a young girl at church (Kristi) who became my summer friend. After I graduated from high school, I moved to Phoenix and lived with my grandparents during my first year at college. I got reacquainted with Kristi and we both started dating cousins. A few years later, we ended up marrying cousins so not only did we remain friends, but now we were related.
This weekend, Kristi invited me to get away with her at her family cabin in Oak Creek Canyon. (For those of you unfamiliar with Arizona, it is 2 1/2 hours north of Phoenix near Flagstaff). We took off Thursday after I got home from work. When we arrived at the cabin, it was a cool 60 degrees and we put a fire in the fireplace and turned on an old Doris Day movie until we both fell asleep on the couch. When I finally got in to bed, it was wonderful to be able to sleep under a quilt and be chilly for a change.
The rest of the weekend was spent reading, hiking, talking, eating, and playing scrabble. It was SO pleasant to relax, be cool, and enjoy spending time with an old time friend. Sometimes I forget how nice it is to have someone to talk to.
What a wonderful couple of days!
*unfortunately, I only got 2 pictures before I realized I was out of battery. This creek was only 15 steps down from the cabin and it certainly added to the ambiance to hear the running water.

How wonderful Lauri! I bet you needed that! I figured you must be away...no blogging! My how we come to expect seeing our friends posts!! Sounds like a perfect hideaway, and I could just imagine your delight in the lovely cooler weather, and enjoying the company of an old friend.
Hi Lauri,
Me again. Thanks for the nice post. My favorite pattern, ah, impossible. There are just so many. I love it when the weather cools, and I really get the sewing bug!!! Today was only 80. Almost chilly!!
You surely deserve a getaway and a rest. Sounds heavenly!
Can't get any better than that, right by the creek.
Wow! What a wonderful trip! I can only imagine how peaceful it was- that's great! :)
You just keep making us love Arizona even more!! We are still toying with our options, and we lean towards the sun just about everyday- we are just trying to figure out some stuff here first.
Love that there is so much to do in that state= and you always put such enticing photots of it all!!
Glad you had a great weekend, and the 2 pics are perfect!!
