What I don't like about summertime:
WHEN IT'S OVER!!!
That's right...school begins tomorrow. Crazy, huh? We're in a modified year round school and although I hate beginning in July, I love it come October when I have a two week break and another two in December, and two more in March and then there's eight weeks of summer vacation.
I'm trying to have a positive attitude but I'm having a hard time gearing up for school this year. I was asked on Thursday afternoon to take a class. Evidently the school decided to add a class at the last minute but they don't have a teacher yet so I am starting off the year with them until the teacher is hired. I had to get the classroom set up, get all of the supplies in the classroom, set up the roster on the computer, get some lesson plans together, and be ready to greet the little darlings tomorrow morning.
At least I can go back to school knowing I got a few things done over the summer.
Here's what I accomplished:
*uploaded all of my photo albums to the computer
*uploaded all of my CD's to the computer
*painted the inside of my kitchen cupboards
*visited 2 of my 3 children (sorry, Jeff--see you soon)
*made a quilt
*sewed a dress
*beefed up my food storage
*weekly temple attendance
*took 2 more Masters classes
*swam nearly every day
*blogged way too much
While the rest of you are lazily lounging by your pool, think of me with 100 7th graders who don't want to learn about reading or writing.

Wow! Good luck tomorrow! That has to be scary to be put in that position so quickly, but also pretty awesome to know they trusted YOU enough to do it! That says a lot about you! :) We have one elementary school close by here that has the same schedule...they start this week as well. They are really the only ones so far...interesting that your school does it too! Seriously, I wish you the best! :)
Sorry you have to go back to work tomorrow Lauri. But reading what all you accomplished was incredible!! You are not a loafer, that is for sure. And, I would love to see a picture of the quilt you made!
: )
I'd like to see the quilt too. And the dress.
Good luck at school - at least the first week of school with 7th graders has to be better than the last week of the school year with them.
School in July?~!! That is insane!! I think Dana would echo all that you love about summer - minus the cute swimsuit- and all the reasons why he is a teacher! We were away this weekend and are going away all next week, and school doesn't start here until the end of August, so he is loving life! He is teaching a morning enrichment class this week, though, so he is sort of working!
GOOd luck with your new class!
Ahhhh Man! School already! That just stinks! Good luck and get those little brains of theirs thinking again!
School already!? Crazy. The kids start school here in just a few weeks so I guess not too crazy... good luck with those 7th graders!
Well good to know I am not the only one greeting kids at school this morning! Taking my break to check blogs, this is crazy I know, but so glad you posted your summer loves. I may have to steal your idea!!
So post that quilt and dress already we want to see your handiwork baby!
Way to go! I am impressed with all you got done. I love the same things about summer!
A lot of times I'm jealous of the cool things you're doing. But not this time. Not one bit. That sounds miserable. You're going to end up with that class for the majority of the school year. I hope it's a good bunch of kids.
How did your first day back to work go? Also, didn't you just LOVE the movie Mamma Mia!!!???
Hi Lauri,
I buy cookie cutters wherever I see them. Some online, some at Sur La Table, cake shops, etc. This cutter was actually a large heart. I just lopped off the tip and turned the heart upside down, and viola...you have a bum! I also do a puppy and a bride out of the heart cutter! The cupcake pan is a Wilton pan. It is expensive, but I bought it with my Michael's coupon. It should have a disclaimer....you really cannot bake this cake by filling both sides of it evenly with batter. I had a heck of a time, and still it fell! Oh well. It was good, and next time I will know how to compensate.
You really did accomplish a lot this summer break. Way to go! I feel like I can't get anything done right now. Good luck back to work.
I love the list of things you accomplished during the summer. Doesn't it feel great. Jacob started 3rd grade yesterday. He LOVES school. He said the school day is too short.
