Summer Project # 3

Whenever summer comes around, I put together a list of things I want to accomplish before school start--things that I don't ever get to during the school year. This summer, one of the things I wanted to do was paint the inside of my kitchen cabinets. Katie always laughs at projects like this. She wonders why I would spend my time on something that no one else sees. This is not the type of project I would have attempted with three kiddos running around but something that is more important to me now.

The inside of these cabinets were dark brown. I think it was particle board that had been stained and it was hideous. Every time I opened the cabinets, I thought about how much better it would look if it was light rather than dark. So yesterday I tackled all of the top cabinets (I'm definitely going to wait to do the bottom cabinets).

Before:

You really need to click on these photos to see how bad it looks.

After: See how much cleaner it looks?

Keep in mind that these picture only show 1 cabinet, I painted a lot more than that. In fact, I painted for 12 hours. This morning when I tried to get out of bed, I really felt it. UGH!

I think I have almost painted everything paintable in this house since I have lived here:

Living Room:

Entry Way:
Master Bedroom:
Kitchen Cabinets (exteriors):
Inside of all of the closets. There were wonderful closet organizers in all 3 bedrooms + the Master closet but again, none of it was painted--it was just unfinished particle board. This one is my sewing/craft closet:
Not to mention bathrooms, family room, hallways, laundry closet, each bedroom, baseboard, etc.etc.

Unfortunately, now that everything has been painted, it's soon going to be time to start all over.

Oh I LOVE that craft organizer. Makes my heart sing. I love an organized closet/shelf. Yours could definitely be featured in a magazine. Funny-at first I thought the 2 befores of your kitchen cupboards were a before and after-I was feeling terrible because I didn't see any improvement and was sure you had wasted your time. I'm not as motivated as you-I think it would have sufficed for me-but the inside white is very stunning. I don't enjoy painting-especially 12 hours of it. NICE WORK!!!

I just read Katie's post. I just wanted to say, when I lay heady down tonight, I am saying a prayer for you.
PS Love the painted cupboards!!! And the dishes, and the sewing closet, and the decor, and I wish I could read Wet Oatmeal Kisses!!!

I am never quite sure how to respond to a comment you leave on my blog??? Am I supposed to write back on yours, or mine????
The cake was for us....and do we need it???? NO WAY!!!
I did it for fun.

Your cabinets look great - and since you're finished with your project - it's time to think about someone besides yourself and come and help me pull some of my weeds.

Actually, at your age - you'd better take some time off.

So funny that before I was a mom or even a wife I would have never thought to paint the inside of cabinets... but now I would. And they DO look so much better!

Everything looks great! You are right- the cabinets do look better. I didn't think they looked that bad to start, but they do look so much better than they did. Your house is beautiful and your hard work has really paid off! :)

Your kitchen cupboards are now totally YOU, 100%. You are so adorably tidy, and put together in every aspect of life. I wish I could be like you in this, one more of many ways!!
